Pathway to Rugby is a six-week crash course consisting of guided practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It’s perfect for learning the basic and fundamental skills of rugby, and it’s designed to be accessible to everyone — no experience required!
Each week, through a variety of fun games and drills, Pathway to Rugby will cover the following areas:
Passing the ball
Catching the ball
Running with the ball (offense and defense)
Tackling and Contact
Rucking
This course is designed so that you build upon the skills from the previous week, and start to learn how to use them in the context of a game environment. We run this course yearly in September, ahead of our pre-season training and matches.
What to Bring
Workout clothes — sneakers, gym shorts, an old t-shirt — that you won't mind getting roughed up/torn.
Water bottle
A mouthguard (required for participating in tackling/contact drills).
A sweatshirt (the Fog practices in the Fog, and it can get chilly).
You do not need rugby-specific clothing or cleats. (shorts, jerseys, rugby pads) or rugby boots (cleats). Sneakers with good traction and gym clothes are perfect.
If you have cleats from a similar sport (soccer, football, lacrosse), you're welcome to wear those and they will work well.
You may not wear baseball-style cleats (flat metal blades).
If you're looking to buy some cheap cleats for practice or matches, check out Ross/Marshalls/TJ Maxx or similar — they regularly have football or soccer cleats for $20 or so.
Do not buy baseball cleats (metal-blade-style cleats); here's a guide to acceptable footwear.
